Renewing Our Support for the Galápagos Biosecurity and Quarantine Control Agency
Galápagos Conservancy has a long-standing commitment to conserving the exceptional ecosystems of the Galápagos Islands. Today, we have renewed our support for the management of the Galápagos Biosecurity and Quarantine Control Agency, as a testament to our ongoing dedication to this cause.
Our President, Dr. James Gibbs along with, General Director, Washington Tapia, and Jean Pierre Cadena, Executive Director of the Galápagos Biosecurity and Quarantine Control Agency, renewed the cooperation agreement for the year 2024 in a simple yet significant ceremony signifying a continued commitment to cooperation from both parties.
In 2024, we will allocate funds to focus on two critical areas. The first area is to mitigate the impacts caused by introduced species, potentially magnified by the effects of El Niño. The second area is to enhance controls to prevent the introduction of invasive species through the automation of the affidavit. These actions are essential to safeguard the unique biodiversity of Galápagos and ensure its conservation for future generations.
Scientist Washington Tapia emphasized the importance of collaborative work, stating, “Our allies can rely on our steadfast and unwavering commitment. We firmly believe that collaboration and joint efforts are essential to securing the future of Galápagos.”
