In the heart of the Galápagos Islands, where the verdant embrace of nature intertwines with human ingenuity, emerges a groundbreaking initiative: TEMPORAL. This innovative ceramics workshop, the first of its kind on San Cristóbal Island, not only creates exquisite and singular art pieces but also invites local youth to immerse themselves in the captivating realm of ceramics.

Elevating Local Women

Thanks to Galápagos Conservancy’s Women in Sustainable Entrepreneurship (WISE) grants, Belén Vásquez, a San Cristóbal resident, has brought her vision of sculpting artistic ceramic creations to life. The funds she received from the WISE grant enabled her to procure premium clays and vivid glazes for her workshop. Even more significant was her acquisition of a ceramic kiln, representing not just the fulfillment of her personal dream but a monumental leap for her artistic endeavor.

A Pledge to Sustainability

In an area where ceramics and pottery are rarities, TEMPORAL further distinguishes itself with its firm commitment to sustainability. Every ceramic piece crafted there is an eco-conscious keepsake, sculpted entirely from the earth, free of pollutants, and radiating uniqueness — presenting a green alternative to the usual Galápagos souvenirs.

Environmental Stewardship

Belén says that she and her team collect plastic waste during beach cleanups, which is later sorted and repurposed into souvenirs. Those who purchase these upcycled creations not only carry a cherished memory of their Galápagos visit but also a fragment of the plastic that regrettably drifts to these pristine shores from around the world.

TEMPORAL's Legacy

The ripple effect of TEMPORAL’s impact on the community is profound. As part of its commitment to social responsibility, a portion of its ceramic sales profits is channeled to sponsor art workshops for underprivileged children on the island, nurturing their artistic potential and shaping the future cultural tapestry of San Cristóbal.

We are proud to champion endeavors like Belén’s, which promote individual artistic expression while highlighting the urgent need to safeguard the Galápagos Islands. TEMPORAL epitomizes the transformative power of uniting art and sustainability to benefit local communities and ecosystems. Are you inspired to join this mission and find sustainable ways to express your creativity? Every action, no matter how small, can leave our planet a little greener.
